Present State of Research Regarding University Choice and Attractiveness of the Study Area

2013

Abstract The purpose of this paper is to present the present state, trends and focus of research regarding the factors that influence the decision making process in choosing a university in which a potential student will study. The study has been accomplished using the methodology of bibliographic study and qualitative research, using various secondary sources. The study focuses on the analysis of the present state of research concentrated on Germany's area and constitutes the basis of a comparative management research Romania-Germany. From various German studies it is shown that for most of the students the most important factor in choosing their university is represented by the study spec…

Stanislao Cannizzaro and the Development of Chemistry in Palermo from 1862 to 1871

2009

Stanislao Cannizzaro worked at Palermo University for about ten years. There he managed to establish a modern and well-equipped chemical laboratory. His international fame attracted co-workers even from abroad: Naquet, Lieben, and Körner came to Palermo to work with him. This greatly improved the quality of teaching and of research in Palermo, which became a worldwide acknowledged center of chemical culture. In Palermo, atomic-molecular theory was extensively taught and research was carried out on chemical atomicity (valence) and spatial structures of both aliphatic and aromatic organic molecules: Körner found the relative positions of substituent groups on the benzene ring, Paternò proved …

Material multimedia para aumentar la motivación y el aprendizaje en el aula universitaria

2018

[EN] The multimedia material used as a teaching medium in the classroom can help the teaching-learning process of the students. It also helps the teacher in his work of transmitting information from another point of view more striking and entertaining. This would cause an enlargement and enrichment in the recipient's experience to assimilate more quickly, dynamically and fluidly. In this study we analyze the grades obtained with and without the help of a multimedia material prepared by teachers. Subsequently, the opinion of the students is collected through an anonymous and voluntary survey allowing the teachers to collect the information necessary for the search to improve the quality of t…

Toward a model for students’ combinatorial thinking

2021

Abstract Combinatorics has many applications in different disciplines, however, only a few studies have explored students’ combinatorial thinking at the upper secondary and tertiary levels concurrently. The present research is a grounded theory study of eight Year 12 and five undergraduate students, who have participated in semi-structured interviews and responded to eight combinatorial tasks. Three types of combinatorial tasks were designed: combinatorial reasoning, evaluating, and problem-posing tasks. In the open coding phase of data analysis, seventy-one codes were identified which categorized into seven main categories at the axial coding phase. At the selective coding phase, five rela…

2006

Using PISA 2000 data, this study presents an international comparison of the way social origin influences reading comprehension performances, looking at a variety of variables, some external to the school system, others internal. A variable's effect is strong in proportion to the strength of its association to father's occupation and degree to which it favors performance. The study uses the method of path analysis to distinguish between these two aspects. The French situation is presented, then compared to twelve other European Union countries. In all countries, social origin influences performance much more strongly through external variables than variables internal to the educational syst…
